Spanish World Cup Party Tip #1
Host your own Spanish World Cup Party
Perhaps you have young children who can’t brave the crowds in a large celebration, or maybe you live far away from a major city centre. If so, why not invite all your friends and family over for a World Cup celebration at your own place? Here are some things you’ll need to throw the best World Cup Party ever!
1) Lots of fluid! If the summer of 2010 has taught us anything, it’s that Ontario is the heat and humidity capital of Canada. If you’re partying in Toronto or Ottawa, make sure you have lots of non-alcoholic beverages for everyone. Replace the wine in the La Casona Sangria recipe (below) with soda water and orange juice, and you’ll also have a beverage that’s good for kids too!
2) A digital camera June 11, 2010 is an historic day for Spain. This is the first time Spain has been in the World Cup Final in the history of the tournament. Don your red and gold jersey, and bask in the joy of these soccer-loving people. We will be creating a photo upload option on the La Casona website, so you can upload your World Cup celebration pictures. Join us on Facebook to be updated and to share your video/pictures with other fans!
3) TV. Just in case you get so excited about your La Casona Spanish celebration that you forget, we thought we’d provide a polite reminder that you’ll need some type of screen to watch the match. This year, the World Cup can be viewed on your cell phone or any computer with a reasonably fast internet connection.
4) Fans for fans. Remember to keep cool on the outside as well as on the inside. Once you pack a few dozen excited fans into a small space, air circulation can go a long way to cooling everyone down.
5) Tapas. These are traditional Spanish dishes, which literally mean “small plates”. Tiny bites of sausage on a toothpick, hard cheeses (avoid soft cheeses in the heat), olives, and basic dips with fresh bread are all examples of simple, delicious and shareable fare. Also, fresh fruit is a perfect accompaniment with any summertime World Cup party.
6) Sangria! Get out a punch bowl or a large pitcher, and make your own Sangria for the guests. La Casona Old Vines Monastrelll or Rosé both make incredible Sangria!
La Casona World Cup Sangria
- 3 x 750 ml. bottles La Casona Old Vines Monastrell or Rosé (or even half and half)
- Equal parts cranberry juice or cranberry juice blend (e.g. cranberry/raspberry cocktail)
- 1 oranges
- 1 lime
- 1 lemon
- 1/2 bag of ice
Thinly slice limes, oranges and lemon. Place in punch bowl with ice. Pour in all other ingredients. Serve immediately. This Sangria is great with any combination of the La Casona Rosé and Old Vines Monastrell.
Non Alcoholic Alternative: Replace wine with orange juice and soda water.
Serves approximately 6 people.
